Saint Patrick’s Day

Just a quick post to say Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Our day was fairly low-key. Started off by baking a loaf of Irish Soda Bread.

I used this recipe. And added a few golden raisins. Turned out pretty well. I would make it again. Should note that I did use a little less salt than the original recipe, 1 1/2 teaspoons instead of the full 2.

J and I did a bit of running around so he could get some new vinyls (we called these albums or LP’s back in the day). And of course, we swung by McDonald’s for Shamrock shakes. Our tradition.

Finally, after dinner we had shamrock sugar cookies from Target for dessert.

Somewhere during today, it also snowed on and off a bit but melted as it arrived. I watched some of the local St. Patrick’s Day parade on tv and may or may not have taken a short nap.

Not a bad day at all.

  1. Sounds like a great St. Patrick’s Day!
Ours was also really low key. I had an inservice training for work in the morning. Came home, had lunch, took a nap. Last night we went to the high school Forum show (think Talent show) where Rebecca was performing. It was a great showcase of high school talent and goes toward publishing the high school yearbook.
Today, I am baking while it is snowing off and on. It is cold outside!
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Sounds like you had a great St. Patrick’s Day! It’s been cold here all weekend as well, though we’ve only had snow flurries, nothing sticking. Supposed to start warming up today, I’m ready. Hope you have a great new week!

  2. Your Irish soda bread is absolutely beautiful, Jean, and the cookies so festive and green! Sounds like you all had a nice St. Patty’s Day, too! In all the hoopla here I forgot all about the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Maybe I can find it online and watch it anyway. Have a great week ahead! <3

    1. Thank you. The bread turned out really well and we actually ate it all (usually I have bread left). I’m definitely keeping that recipe.
