A Bit of Cabin Fever and Clearing Out Stuff

Just realized it’s Wednesday. Not much winter stuff to report today. I let G take my car to work so I’m having a bit of an at-home day.

Today’s Winter Weather

Still having cocoa with homemade whipped cream even if it is kind of warm outside

Not so wintry anymore. It’s windy out as I can hear it (nothing like the crazy gusts from “the storm”) but it’s also 52 and sunny. Snow is melting fast.

Cabin Fever and the Cat

I think the cat has cabin fever after all the super cold days. She meows loudly at anyone who will listen but doesn’t know what she wants. Outside? Nope. Love? Nope. Food? Nope.

At least it’s warm enough for her to go outside today and tomorrow but I have a feeling she’s missing her sleeping bench. It’s not going to be dry anytime soon.

And like a little kid, she’s been misbehaving a bit as well. Why play with your brand new Christmas toys when there’s mischief to be found?

She’s getting on the kitchen counters. We can hear her…she’s not a sneaky as she thinks. Chewing on the plants. UGH, something she never did in the past. And are the plants good for her? Of course not! She did get some cat grass for Christmas so I guess I better get on potting the seeds and setting them in the window. Need to water plants anyway.

I’m feeling a bit restless myself, want to go outside but it’s gone from billions below zero to probably mud. Still plan to grab my boots and go when G gets home, I think. It will be good for me.

Clearing Out Stuff

I’ve started clearing out stuff as I take down Christmas and put things back. It’s kind of nice as i’ve been doing it slowly. Usually, my husband starts helping and it stresses me. I don’t like to feel rushed. This year (maybe he’s finally figured it out?) I’ve been going at my own pace and just doing bits each day. And I’m making an Advent tub so that next year I can unpack it first. All the Advent items and things I like to put out in first in one place. What a concept!

Winter is a good time to take stock of the things I truly love or do not. One of my goals/list items for 2023 is to have things I only truly love in this home. I’m hoping this book gives me a bit of inspiration.

A nice thing about winter is the temptation to go outside and do something else is not as great as in the other seasons. I’m slightly less distracted, by outdoor things anyway.

Have you started packing away your holiday stuff yet? Are you like me and like to go slow with it or more like my husband who just wants it done and done now?

  1. I like to get it done. It bothers me to have it half done, so once I start I have to keep going and get it out of the way. Like today, I had to keep taking breaks because my stamina is shot after my health stuff last fall, but I needed to get it all done today or I’d be twitchy. lol

I agree about winter not calling you outside to do things. I often feel guilty during the summer if I’m lounging watching TV or something, and not outside getting yard work done. In the winter, you don’t have to worry about that! Wheee!

    1. I think most people like to just get it done. It just makes me happy to take my time with it all. I am focusing on finishing up today because I know the couch covered in Christmas is probably driving my husband up the wall. He’s showed great restraint in not just hauling it all to the basement in big piles. Oh, I always feel like I should be out taking advantage of the weather, not necessarily yard work though. Hope your last weekend of 2022 is off to a great start!

  2. The kittens (which really aren’t kittens anymore) have been restless, too…in, out, in, out…but most the day today…out. I was having trouble with plants, too, until, I learned from a friend, to sprinkle chili powder on them. No more cat and plant problems. Love the kitty stocking. The one I got for the kittens had a kitty on it, too! I’ve got most of my Christmas decorations down, but am leaving up a few lights. I’ve just put everything in one place for now and will go through, sort, and pack away as I can…probably next week…and, yes, I, too, plan on going through stuff and do a bit of a deep clean over the course of the winter. It’s amazing how fast stuff piles up when you’re not looking. Have a nice rest of 2022 and a great New Year! Blessings, my friend!

    1. Might have to try the chili powder trick, she’s never bothered plants in the past so I’m not sure what’s going on with her. It is amazing with the stuff. Sometimes it seems I no sooner get a counter cleaned off around here than someone is setting something right there (myself as guilty as the rest of them). Hope you have a wonderful end of 2022!

  3. Hello! We have warmer weather and sun here in Pennsylvania today. I do not really love the warm temperatures, I have to say! I am a cozy winter girl, as you probably know! I am leaving Christmas up until New Year. Just hate taking it down, but once I do, I am always glad for the fresh, clean start! Have a cozy day, and enjoy your cocoa!

    1. We had crazy though windy no coat weather yesterday (well, maybe light jacket…). I was happy to be able to put some of my bigger plants outside and water them (They live outside in the summer and I’m not quite sure what to do with them indoors right now). That said, if it IS winter, I would like some winter weather. Not the crazy Arctic stuff but maybe some nice normal cold and snow. I did enjoy my cocoa despite the warm weather. Hope you are enjoying these last few days of 2022!
