Freeze warning

Quick one for tonight.

They’ve issued a freeze warning for our area tonight. So from almost 90 on Saturday to freezing weather overnight, then back to the 60’s and 70’s for a bit.

Spent a good part of the afternoon bringing in outdoor plants. They grow outside and yet, the inside space seems to shrink. Not pictured above is another Boston Fern and a cactus. I also cut the zinnia blooms and stuck in a couple of vases. And I just realized I forgot about the monstera. SIGH. Well, too late now. We’ll see if it can bounce back from a bit of a freeze. My husband won’t be sad if it doesn’t make it.

Anyway, I was wondering if you’ve turned your heat on yet for the season? Or if you have a fireplace, have you enjoyed a fire? Do you have a set date that you hold out until turning on your heat?

Brought a few geraniums inside this time as well. It’s hard shifting it all to inside when a lot of flowers are still blooming.

My answers: No, we’ve not turned the heat on yet. And sadly, no fireplace outside of the Netflix picture here. I haven’t had a Netflix “fireplace” fire yet either. October seems very soon to turn on the heat but if we get super cold, I’ll probably bump it on. Never hurts to test it. We don’t hold out for any set day around here.

  1. November is my “AIM FOR” date for turning on the heat. Usually by now it is on, but I added a quilt to the bed and really trying to hold out. I have turned off the automatic sprinklers and am in the process of taking out the garden as it’s not bearing much fruit or veggies. I’m hoping to get one more batch of tomatoes picked tomorrow for some green tomato sauce.

  2. With our weather, I’ll probably have the a/c back on for November, ha. Cleared out the end of my tomatoes on Tuesday. They’re all in a grocery sack hopefully turning red. We didn’t really have much of a garden this year, just a small raised bed. Hope you get that last batch of tomatoes!
