Happy Homemaker Monday, Workday

Happy Standard Time! I know I’m in the minority here but I absolutely love when the mornings go back to being light at a reasonable hour. Waiting until almost 8a.m. for the sunrise just wasn’t working for me. And saying it like I do every year: The days get naturally longer and shorter!

Okay, my leave my time alone sales pitch is over. It’s a work day here so I’m trying to get my Happy Homemaker Monday (hosted by Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom) up super early before I leave. Of course, like a petulant child, the computer slows down as I need it to hurry. SIGH. We’ll see if I can finish this post.

The Weather

Gorgeous! It’s 59 degrees right now and going to be another beautiful sunny day. All my plants are outside for one last hurrah before I’ll go get them again on Wednesday when the temps change back to normal with cold overnights and highs in the 50’s.

As I Look Outside My Window

No time this morning but I did see the sunrise when letting the cat out (sorry no picture). Ah, have I mentioned how much I love daylight before 7:00AM?

Right Now

Trying to get this post done before my timer. I have to leave for work at 8AM and it’s 7:20. I’m ready except for breakfast and packing my lunch/water bag.

Thinking And Pondering

Thinking about a few work related things (nothing bad just wondering how the day’s going to be), the holidays (I am so sick of black Friday ads already…way too early!), and what we’re going to do for J’s birthday next week.

How I’m Feeling

I can love standard time and still feel tired from all the time switching.

On The Breakfast Plate

Coffee, vitamins, and probably a bagel. Or yogurt. Maybe both.

On The Lunch Plate

No idea, forgot to grab a November lunch menu from work. I’ll take a granola bar and some grapes in case it’s yucky.

On The Dinner Plate

Husband’s choice

What I’m Wearing Today

My “green bean” dress and tennis shoes. I wore this dress one day over the summer and one of my favorite kids (graduated now) told me I looked like a giant green bean. We were having green beans for lunch that day and I did match. Ha! So, this shall forever be my “green bean” dress. It’s a short-sleeved, long dress.

On My Reading Pile

Still working my way through Tides of Fire by James Rollins though I have a wonderful stack of new library books waiting.

On My TV

Football…how ’bout them…CHIEFS! Of course, that game was a bit anxiety inducing but they won in the end. More football. Tried to watch the soccer game but we didn’t have any access (our local soccer team is in the MLS playoffs and won their match last night). Probably the usual stuff during the course of the week.

On The Menu This Week

Hunting season starts soon so we’re without my husband for part…and I’ll be going to the store later tonight so….no idea yet really.

MONDAY: husband’s choice

TUESDAY: French Dip sandwiches (carryover)

WEDNESDAY: Maybe minestrone? (Craving veggies)

THURSDAY: No idea

FRIDAY: No idea

Looking Around The House

I cleaned a little yesterday so there are pockets of clean but still places where you’d ruin your white gloves.

On My To Do List

  • Enjoy this beautiful weather!
  • This post
  • Grocery store
  • Make an actual menu for the week
  • Mail birthday card to SIL
  • Still need to write pen pal letter (I know…)
  • Target trip

From The Camera

Took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday to go for a nice long walk so all pictures in the post are from that. Am I the only one who sees a fairy dress here?

Quote For The Week

Better to light a candle, than curse the darkness. (Chinese Proverb)

(Found on Pinterest, really wish I had a candle picture to go here but no time to search for one. Please forgive any typo/grammar errors in my post, typing in a hurry this morning.)

  1. I’m in the minority with you, Jean! Give me REAL time or give me…well…nothing! Just give me real time! LOL! Beautiful photos! Am so excited to be heading to Burr Oak with daughter-in-law and grands tomorrow! The weather is supposed to be PERFECT and I’m very much looking forward to being home in Eastern Jack again! It’s always a treat! The French dip sandwiches sound good. I enjoy them out, but have never made them at home. Do you have a recipe that you’d be willing to share? Have a great day at work today (I love the ‘green bean dress’ story!) and have a terrific week ahead! Blessings!

    1. Thank you. I thought of you this morning as I was taking my walk, haven’t been to Burr Oak in a long time. Hope you enjoy it! I asked G about the recipe and he said he couldn’t remember that he’d just pulled a bunch of random ones from the Internet. The one I think I’ll try is this one though: https://carlsbadcravings.com/best-slow-cooker-french-dip-sandwiches/ Hoping it’s a good one. Hope you have a great time up this way today and a wonderful week!

      1. Hey, Jean! Thanks for the recipe! I’m printing it off right now! Had a great day at Burr Oak! Walked the discovery trail behind the nature center, then Bethany Falls. The weather was PERFECT and the fall colors! I’ll be back up in the area over the weekend. Son-in-law has a chess tournament at Bass Pro in Independence on Saturday and Amanda’s girls have a birthday party that evening in North KC. I love getting to visit back home whenever I have opportunity. I hope your week is going well! Blessings!

        1. We made these on Wednesday night and we all loved them. The only thing I did different is use beef broth because it’s what I had on hand. And I only put 1 1/2 slices of cheese but really they needed both slices. Super rich but super good. Glad you enjoyed walking the trails. Waterfall park around Bass Pro is also very pretty with fall colors right now. My kids used to love that playground. You can walk the path (paved) all the way around the lake and over by the waterfall. I’m not sure if the waterfall is still going right now, however. They were doing a lot of tree trimming work by it last time I was by there but you could still walk. Hope you have a wonderful and fun filled weekend!

  2. I find the mornings quite pleasant with their early light, but I must admit that I’m still adjusting to these long, dark evenings. I truly enjoyed your photos. I’m curious about how the rest of your day has unfolded.

    1. It’s hard to adjust to the dark evenings, I do agree. Glad you enjoyed the photos, sometimes I worry I’m sharing too much of the same variety but I love taking the outdoor photos so much. Thinking of making a blog post about the rest of my day, it wasn’t bad but oh, was it ever exhausting, LOL. Hope you are enjoying your week so far!

  3. Hello my Lovely!
Not sure if you tried to visit – still trying to figure out the privacy thing and put back on public now.
i’m with you and I love it being lighter in the AM’s now! It’s sure looking like very late Fall around here now though. Very bare and no leaves left. 😢
It was a good week for both of our teams – granted my team had an easy team to play. Lol Definitely a growing season.
I hope you have a blessed week ahead dear Jean. xoxo

    1. Glad I could still visit your blog this morning (Yesterday was crazy busy so I didn’t even look at things until around 4:30 and that was on my phone). We have so many leaves left around here, I’ll send you some 😉 Always a lot more fun cheering on the teams when they win! Hope you are having a great Tuesday so far!

  4. I can’t believe I’m late again. I really was hoping this was the week I was back on schedule. I’m with you on the time thing though. I just wish they’d stick with it and stop changing it. Hope your week was awesome – see you tomorrow.

    1. Well, I’d probably object a bit if they left it on daylight savings time, waiting until almost 8 in the morning for the sunrise was getting to me. Of course, now I have to make sure I make the most of that daylight before it sets. Hope your week is off to a wonderful start!
