A Few Things About Me

Yesterday, Billie Jo over at Afternoon Coffee And Evening Tea declared it Get To Know Your Blog Friends Week. And shared a few things, encouraging us to also share a few things most people probably don’t know about us.

So, for today’s post, I’m taking her idea and sharing a few random things about myself.

  • As soon as someone says tell me about yourself or asks my favorite anything, I tend to go blank. Except for with my favorite color, green.
  • I’m a college graduate with a B.A. in psychology but also hold a minor in economics. Not home economics but actual supply/demand/micro/macro economics. Please don’t quiz me, college was a long time ago!
  • There are only 3 places I’ve ever lived all in this same citywide area: my childhood home (we never moved when I was a kid), my own apartment, and this house where I now live with my husband.
  • With very few exceptions (covered strawberries or pretzels are okay but we usually do those things with almond bark around here), I think white chocolate is an abomination. It’s not even real chocolate, says so right here. Dark chocolate is my favorite but I also like milk chocolate just not as much.
  • When I was about 11, I hid under the neighbor’s boat during a game of hide and seek with friends. The license plate hung down and I cut my back climbing out from under the boat after the game. Still have a slight scar from the 14 stitches it required. It was not a fun summer after that.
  • Diet Coke used to be my go to drink. I won’t touch it or any other diet soda now. Artificial sweeteners with the exception of small amounts of Stevia give me bad headaches.
  • I started college as an English major and strive for the green smiley face on my “readability score” on all my blog posts.
  • Lily-of-the-Valley are my favorite flowers but I won’t grow them in the yard because they’re also highly poisonous.
  • The color of my first “bought completely on my own” new car was fire engine red. It was a 1993 Pontiac sunbird. I cried when my husband said it was time to get something new (it was 7 years old by then)
  • Ironic since I have a blog, however, I tend to be a fairly private person.

Bonus item: I always worry that I’m using the word ironic wrong.

Okay, now that I truly feel as if I’ve told you more than you ever wanted to know about me, it’s your turn. What are some things I might not know about you?

  1. Love learning these things about you Jean! The white chocolate cracked me up. An abomination. 😂 And the bonus item was a true gem. 😉 Diet coke was my fave FOREVER too! Now we only do zevia sodas around here. I’m with ya there. Think I may try to do one of these posts today too. xoxo

    1. Thanks. I stand by my words about white chocolate. Do you know (not even kidding) that as soon as I got in the car after writing that post, the song “Isn’t It Ironic” was playing on the radio. LOL. I like the Izze sodas but I also do a “real” soda occasionally (probably too often but definitely not every day) as well. Looking forward to your post!

  2. What a great idea, Jean!
I think I’ll do a post like that this week too.
I really enjoyed your post, I’m so glad to know you even more. Although we are over 5000 miles apart, I feel very close to you and I’m so glad we met on the blog.

    1. That’s so kind, I do also feel that same connection despite the distance. Looking forward to reading your post.

  3. I love these types of posts! I used to love white chocolate, but now that I am older it taste fake to me and I don’t like it anymore. I used to drink a lot of Diet Dr. Pepper, but now colas of any kind (diet or regular) gives me a belly ache. I haven’t had pop of any kind since December 31, 2022. Trying to not have any pop this year at all.
I am planning on doing a similar post on Thursday with things about me since you and Billie Jo have given me the idea! 🙂

    1. Good for you! I very rarely buy soda any more though my husband does and takes it in his lunch almost every day (What am I gonna do?). Once in a while crave pop so I’ll either drink the real stuff or if I’m being super good/motivated, I like the Izze sodas (which are technically fruit juice and carbonated water though probably not that much better) or an Emergen-C (it’s carbonated, LOL). Can’t wait to read your post!

  4. Hello! I loved reading through this and learning so much about you!!!! Fellow English major here! But I will leave you to that economic stuff! I remember my roommate took that, and I was scared just looking at her book! Agree about the white chocolate! It leaves a weird film in my mouth, too. I bet your car was something. Remember “riding around” listening to our cassette tapes without a care in the world??? Thanks for sharing!!!!

    1. Thank you! Maybe if I’d stayed an English major instead of switching to Psychology, I’d know the proper way to use ironic for sure. I LOVED economics but took it late and ended up minoring in it by taking all the required courses in something like 3 semesters. It was crazy. My oldest son is majoring in English though 🙂 And minoring in film. (No economics love from him, LOL). Sometimes I miss my cassette tapes. Thanks again for the great idea for this post!

  5. We have so many things in common. I also love this post. I remember a similar meme early years ago when I first started blogging so I’m curious about what I wrote then and will go in search of it to do a similar post soon. In the meantime, the one thing I 100% agree with is: “As soon as someone says tell me about yourself or asks my favorite anything, I tend to go blank.” 😀

    1. I do remember back when I first started blogging there’d be lots of “share 10 things about yourself” memes or something like that. We do seem to have quite a bit in common, I’m so glad we “met” through this world of blogging. Looking forward to your post!

    1. It is fun, I always love finding out more about my blogging friends. Hope you are having a great week!

  6. I laughed at the Economics major, I also graduated with a bachelor in Economics and after I was done, I asked myself, now what job do I look for? An Economist? Haha

I enjoyed this blog, got to know you a little more, you should play this every month ,fairly private person 😂 have a wonderful day !

    1. Oh, it’s exciting to “meet” someone else who likes economics! Yes, I’m not sure how to go about finding a job as a economist though I only had a minor so wouldn’t have qualified either way. It used to be all about just having a degree in something unless you wanted to super specialize (like medicine, not for me at all), I think it probably still is. Hope you have a great day!

  7. Fellow Econ minor here too! I almost double-majored (I have a B.A. in Journalism) but was scared off by the statistics requirements. (My son is a Psych major/Econ minor!) I really enjoyed it and Econ is as much about human behavior as numbers, if you think about it. What a fun list! Great getting to know you better and thanks for the inspiration for today’s blog post! Now I know what to write about! 🙂

    1. Journalism has always appealed to me! I had to take statistics for my Psych major. Tough course, I struggled but I love to quote the professor to my kids all the time: Statistics are like the tail on the dog. And the tail doesn’t wag the dog. (They are now at the point where if I start, they give me the I KNOW…eye roll, lol). Yes, I think that’s why economics appealed to me so much. If I’d have kept going in my psychology path, counseling wasn’t what interested me so much as motivation. I’d have gone into the area of industrial psychology. Are you going to write a get to know you better post? Looking forward to it!
