Reflecting on 2022

Isn’t this the time for the great reflection on the previous year and all that?  Mostly, I’ve been reflecting on why I’ve eaten so many Christmas cookies instead of an actual meal. Maybe I should go ahead and think on my list and word from 2022 for a moment.

Well, this wasn’t a year for great success with words and lists on this end.

Let’s start with my overly ambitious list of 22 items for 2022. I don’t know I have 2 days left, what can I squeeze in and finish? Ha.

My List With Progress Updates

  1. Join in for every Happy Homemaker Monday   Did pretty good here, think I missed a few
  2. Read 82 books  I read 128 books! Probably when I should have been doing other stuff
  3. Follow the Fly Lady Plan (Adapting the days to work for my schedule) Maybe next year
  4. Learn to use the laptop computer (my son gave me his old one in the summer and I’ve ignored it)  I tried but we decided the laptop wasn’t fixable after all.
  5. Host Easter brunch I really hope to get back to some form of this next year!
  6. Celebrate Rudolph Day each month with a bit of Christmas planning Managed a few but didn’t do all of them, okay I think I did two. Still two isn’t zero.
  7. Share gratitude each week with a Thankful Thursday post Made a decent attempt, found it easier to think thoughts of gratitude each day than force myself to write a weekly post
  8. Drink a minimum of 3 glasses of water a day HA HA ha, miss…next year maybe?
  9. Go on a vacation  My husband and I went to Arkansas for a weekend with friends
  10. Take at least 3 “people” pictures for each major holiday/occasion I did okay with this
  11. Make a photo book of 2021 and then delete all the pictures off the computer (or put them on a flash drive) Still have time, maybe, but probably not going to happen this year
  12. Frame J’s all-district band photos (the one from 2019 and the one from 2021 when we get it) Next year SIGH
  13. Use it up and/or  throw it out before buying new (with things like wrapping paper for example)  I did pretty good with this one to the point I had to have my husband buy me new wrapping paper to finish up wrapping Christmas gifts and my candle closet is almost empty!
  14. Add in an evening skin care routine Didn’t happen though I bought new moisturizer
  15. Try one new restaurant each month as a family Nope, not even close
  16. Go through one bin in the basement each week (to clear out and declutter) 2023 Goal for sure!
  17. Fix wedding ring SIGH, no. I should’ve made this a Christmas request.
  18. Organize Pinterest boards by actually trying pins and deleting ones that are no longer relevant Nope, didn’t happen
  19. Start doing yoga again Refer to number 18’s answer
  20. Make a better effort to reach out and connect with friends and family I’ll give myself a C-/D+, definitely room to improve on this one
  21. Create a master list of family birthdays Ha, no. Still want to do it though
  22. Take the coffee cup advice and enjoy myself (I use this coffee cup a lot of work days as a reminder to myself to just enjoy the time with the preschool kids) I did okay at this, think I did better than usual through the holiday season.

Heal, My Word of the Year from 2022

Well, not my best endeavor for a word of the year. Not my worst either.

I outlined what I wanted to achieve with my word in this post.

While I didn’t really achieve the planned results, same size with the same dry skin, taking time to put myself first a bit more often did help my mental health. Quite a bit. I can’t remember the last time when at this time of the year, I wasn’t in an awful mood.

Barely a whisper to myself: Have I actually avoided my usual post-holiday funk? If so, that is a HUGE win.

Do I feel better at the end of 2022 than I did at the end of 2021/beginning of 2022? Absolutely.

What is that catch-phrase of the Flylady whose system I didn’t manage to follow? Oh yeah, progress not perfection. Works for me.

Did you do a word/list for 2022? How did you do with your plans?

And are you doing the same in 2023?

Reviewing My 2022 List From January

It’s been a long while since I thought about the list of 22 things I made back in January of this year. I’ve probably been avoiding it since I know not much on the list happened.

Here’s a scary look at my progress.

My 22 for 2022 List Reviewed And Updated:

  1. Join in for every Happy Homemaker Monday *I’ve missed a few but kept up pretty well*
  2. Read 82 books I’ve read 102 books so far!
  3. Follow the Fly Lady Plan (Adapting the days to work for my schedule) *Not currently happening*
  4. Learn to use the laptop computer (my son gave me his old one in the summer and I’ve ignored it)  We shelved this idea as my son’s laptop was so slow!
  5. Host Easter brunch *Did not happen*
  6. Celebrate Rudolph Day each month with a bit of Christmas planning *Started great, then fizzled*
  7. Share gratitude each week with a Thankful Thursday post *Haven’t managed to do this every week*
  8. Drink a minimum of 3 glasses of water a day *ha, HA, nope. Needs to happen still*
  9. Go on a vacation *St Louis was a bit of a vacation, we have a trip with friends planned in October but a genuine just us or us and the kids vacation, not yet.*
  10. Take at least 3 “people” pictures for each major holiday/occasion *I’ve actually somewhat kept up with this despite a reluctant family*
  11. Make a photo book of 2021 and then delete all the pictures off the computer (or put them on a flash drive)  *Not  yet*
  12. Frame J’s all-district band photos (the one from 2019 and the one from 2021 when we get it) *Not yet*
  13. Use it up and/or  throw it out before buying new (with things like wrapping paper for example) *I’d say I’ve been about 50% successful with this, maybe a little less*
  14. Add in an evening skin care routine *I bought some new moisturizer, does that count? Need to be better about using it*
  15. Try one new restaurant each month as a family *Good idea, proving harder to actually do*
  16. Go through one bin in the basement each week (to clear out and declutter) *HA, I wish*
  17. Fix wedding ring *SIGH, this shouldn’t be hard and yet…*
  18. Organize Pinterest boards by actually trying pins and deleting ones that are no longer relevant *Ongoing process*
  19. Start doing yoga again *Not yet*
  20. Make a better effort to reach out and connect with friends and family *Need to work on this still*
  21. Create a master list of family birthdays *Not yet*
  22. Take the coffee cup advice and enjoy myself (I use this coffee cup a lot of work days as a reminder to myself to just enjoy the time with the preschool kids) *Too vague to properly gauge*

***********

After reviewing my list, I suppose all hope is not lost. Not as much progress as I’d liked but I still have a few months to make a bit more progress. It was good to just look at the list again. I’d  not done that in quite a long time. Many thanks to Tamy over at Chasing My Life for posting about her list reminding me to review my own.

Did you make a list of 22 for 2022? How’s your list going?

List of Twenty-Two Items for 2022

Here’s my list of twenty-two items for 2022. Each year going back to 2019, I think, maybe earlier, I’ve made a list of items to complete for the year. Am I successful each year? On a few, yes. On others, not so much. Yet I do enjoy the challenge and taking time to put a bit of thought into the upcoming year.

Usually the number of items correlates to the number of the year although 2,022 items might be pushing things! So, just the last 2 digits. And last year, keeping in mind my word of “less”, I made a shorter list. However, this year I’m back to making a list of the full number.

Some items on my list are repeats from the previous years while I’ve also added new ones. Suppose I should start with a review of last year’s list.

A Quick Glance At My Short List from 2021

  1. Read 72 books I read 98 books!
  2. Join in for every single Happy Homemaker Monday post I think I came close
  3. Keep a kindness journal Focus on ways to be kind to my family Still have room to improve here
  4. Serve a vegetable with every main meal in addition to/instead of potatoes Try one in season new vegetable each week Why wasn’t this easier? Room to improve
  5. Eat dinner together at the table as a family Tuesday through Thursday See above
  6. Buy and savor a “fancy” (read expensive) magazine each quarter (so 4 times)  I think I did this 3x
  7. Spend at least 5 minutes outside every day  Maybe too vague? I don’t know.
  8. Observe one sugar free week each quarter (sensing a theme with the quarterly things here) Tried 2-3 times with mixed results
  9. Follow a nightly skincare regime Turned this into a morning routine instead
  10. Learn a craft FAIL
  11. Participate in Rudolph day on the 25th of each month Room to improve, trying again in 2022
  12. Save and preserve my old blog, So Not Organized (maybe in book form or on a flash drive?) I moved it to a free Word press site but wished I’d done this the way I started with simply moving posts over here as something happened and all my pictures from that blog are gone. Live and learn I suppose. Still have the posts at least.

So not the best set of results from last year. However, I’m excited about my list of twenty-two so let’s just move on to it.
