Slow Saturday

I thought I’d spend this morning checking out the last farmer’s market of the season or doing a little shopping. However, I just wasn’t in the mood.

The day was kind of dreary and cold (though not cold like last week) and just felt right for staying at home.

The cleaning bug was biting a bit this morning so I decided to do a bit of computer work until that passed! Actually, I did a bit of digital cleaning. My email inbox was overflowing. So, it was time for the delete button. And I cleared out another email account I used for a few things…oh my, I’m glad those emails were digital and not paper! So many. I need to get better about deleting things after I read them.

As you can see from the photos, my supervisor opted for a slow Saturday as well.

slow saturday

Even the digital world was in the slow mood as I took these photos this morning and then, they didn’t show up in a shareable form until 6:30 tonight.

I spent the rest of the afternoon doing nothing but a bit of TV watching (Loki, college football) and reading my current book (Tides of Fire by James Rollins) along with doing the never ending laundry.

We just finished up a lazy (super lazy for me as I didn’t cook!) dinner of homemade waffles and bacon. And I came down here to switch the laundry, finish up this post, and contact Bath and Body Works customer service. My order arrived with a broken candle. However, I now have a replacement candle on the way!

No plans for tonight and I’m perfectly okay with that. Hope you’ve had a wonderful Saturday whether it’s been busy or slow.

Welcome November

Disclosure: With the exception of the first photo, I took all the photos in this post during a walk yesterday morning. Yes, it was freezing out but I bundled up and it felt great to be out walking again.

I love this little sign and its message. A good reminder when Christmas tries to upstage our moments of thankfulness this month.

That said, I do like Christmas and if you are putting up your Christmas tree today, no judgement here. I just don’t like to rush it too much as I have a kiddo with a birthday in a couple weeks and then, my own birthday in early December.

I guess I’ll back track for a minute and talk about…

Our Halloween

The moon at about 9:30 yesterday morning!

It was cold and windy on Halloween so I felt for the kids. And I was glad I bought Halloween candy we all like here. We have lots leftover! Both boys still had college classes to attend. G decided at the last minute to skip his plans and just stay home (he’d already gone to a Halloween party over the weekend).

I did have a few good Halloween scares: First I couldn’t find my car keys anywhere! Had to take the husband’s spare keys. Thankfully, I found them later in my sunglasses case (a trick?). And these geese, if you are walking alone on the trail and can’t see the water. A solo goose landing sounds like a small boat launching!

Finally, I also slipped a bit on one of the bridges while on my walk. Thankfully, it was at the end and I didn’t fall but it was slippery on the bridges! Probably because there was frost on the ground!

After my morning walk, I didn’t do much except catch up on some tv watching. For Halloween night, my husband and I had taco soup but the boys had other things. Everyone’s schedule being different makes dinner times on Tuesdays (and Thursdays) a bit chaotic.

And I was super brave watching Five Nights At Freddy’s. I enjoyed it! It had a surprisingly interesting story and wasn’t overly scary. Plus who couldn’t love the Chuck E. Cheese from the ’80’s type nostalgia! Fun fact: G used to be terrified of those kinds of characters! Wouldn’t even go in the room where they were “singing”. Actually, you could forget about being anywhere near any type of mascot type character with him.

Today

The sun is shining but it is still super cold! It was in the 30’s the last time I checked but I woke up to 23 degrees. I’ve switched out the indoor Halloween decor for Thanksgiving themed items but the outdoor stuff is going to stay for a bit longer.

Later tonight, J has his first college band concert so hopefully, the weather warms up a bit this afternoon. I’m excited to go to it but also a little worried about the parking situation. Making my husband drive so he’ll get to deal with that, ha!

Plans For The Weekend

We’re supposed to go out to dinner with friends on Friday night. I’m thinking it’s going to be nice enough this weekend for some more yard “work” on Saturday. I already miss being out there watering my plants and checking on the garden. Watering indoor plants just isn’t the same for me. I need to repot a plant (if it survived the cold) that had to go back outside because it was full of pill bugs (Or do you call them rolly pollies like me?), oops. And I’m debating making some sort of special breakfast for our early morning Chiefs game viewing on Sunday.

Thoughts About The Rest Of November

It’s hunting season around here which means my husband will be in and out of town. He’ll come home of course for J’s birthday on the 15th. J’s wanting to go to the symphony so I think that’s going to be his birthday present, tickets for a December concert. Our Thanksgiving plans aren’t set yet and that’s okay. I do miss going to Oklahoma each year but being home is nice as well. And of course, I do think of Christmas a bit just like everyone else.

I just read this article and it really resonated. I think the prompt within the article could easily apply to any holiday: What brings you joy during the holidays?  Definitely going to be thinking on that in the coming weeks.

Well, I’ve rambled on enough here and now it’s time to do something that definitely doesn’t bring me joy…pay the bills. (However, I am grateful we can indeed pay our bills and afford the things they bring us like electricity).

What’s on your mind as the new month and holiday season approaches?

Friday Five

Hey, another 2 posts week! Hooray. Thought I’d just do this post in the Five on Friday style.

ONE: RAIN DELAY

I barely got a quick walk in on Tuesday morning before the rain started. We finally had a few days of decent rainfall. It rained all day on Tuesday and Wednesday. Much needed. Speaking of delays, I am sharing this picture I didn’t get a chance to share in my Monday post. It’s just a random zinnia picture from our yard and I really like it. Maybe you’ll like it as well.

TWO: HAPPY LITTLE SURPRISES

Am I channeling Bob Ross?  Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday were work days for me. It’s nice being home more. However, it’s such a joy to go into work and see the kids as well. Tuesday was just a few hours in the pre-primary classroom, just slightly crazy because of the rainy day. And thankfully, we did get to go outside for a few minutes while I was there.

Wednesday, I worked in the kitchen. Ugh, not my thing. At home or at work. I’d even given one of my shifts away to another sub who was in need of more hours. However, upon arrival, I learned that they’d fixed the dishwasher. It’d been broken for a long time. If you’ve worked in any sort of commercial kitchen, you’ll relate to the “joy” of the three part handwashing sinks…wash, rinse, sanitize. Kills the hands. So hooray for commercial sanitizing dishwashers that are quick and efficient!

The regular cook had left the two of us who were supposed to be in there the most a little gift as well! These lemon wafer cookies might be my new favorites!

And of course, spending some time in the primary classroom areas was such a joy. The kids asking me: when was I going to be back in their classroom made my day. Along with the hugs, overhearing little conversations (and on occasion stepping away from my kitchen duties to offer a bit of input–no, you should not hide from your teacher! ).

THREE: OUTDOOR CHORES

Another surprise yesterday, my husband had a day off work. We mainly did outdoor things. And frankly, I prefer to bring my plants in for the season when he’s not home. There is not such a thing as too many plants is there?  Funny, I never used to be a plant person as far as indoors. However, I can’t bear to let my plants go for the winter. Especially the clearance bargains I “rescued” from the garden center.

The weather people predict a hard freeze for us over the weekend so I spent all day yesterday (thankfully, it was a warm day with the rain leaving) bringing in my plants. Did you know that if you vacation your houseplants outside over the summer, they grow?!

This monstera (a bargain from Sam’s Club two years ago, husband says it’s the worst $8 he ever spent) is getting so big…not sure if you can see the top of the rocking chair back there. Basically, this thing is halfway covering the window in height.

I also made this little pot of begonias for our bedroom. The ladies at one of my favorite flower stores told me they would keep over the winter. Worth a try. I neglected them all summer, never even taking them out of their garden center containers. And they just continued to bloom.

I also harvested up the rest of our garden “bounty” ha. More herb drying in my future.

FOUR: INDOOR DECOR

I woke up to a quiet dark house so I plugged in my little ghost lights.

My leaf lights finally gave out and I’ve struggled to find new ones so this year for fun, I hung up the little ghost lights. We’ve had these since the boys were little. Usually, I put them around the window frame but was in the mood for something different.  Also, lit my pumpkin clove candle for a bit. And yes, it smells as good as you think it might.

Here’s my fun basket filler found at Target that doesn’t really work because I didn’t buy enough but I still like it.

FIVE: WEEKEND PLANS

So, I bought bulbs a couple weeks ago. And while I was in Menards, our yard grew! Oops. Does that happen to anyone else?

My weekend plans include:

  • watching a Halloween movie (or two), the boys think it’s funny that I’d like to see Five Nights At Freddy’s. I’ve been told “it’s a generational thing” and I’m not sure how to take that.
  • Finding homes for all the plants I moved indoors yesterday
  • Visiting some of the last Farmer’s Markets of the season. Last week I went to one a bit further out and had the best honey lavender latte, hoping the mobile coffee place is there again. Might be worth the drive!
  • Planting 114 flower bulbs (maybe not that many but that’s apparently how many I bought) if it’s not raining
  • Cheering on the Chiefs!

We still aren’t sure if we’re going to a bonfire tomorrow night, thinking my husband isn’t overly enthused. Do you have any fun weekend plans?

Happy Friday

Just thought I’d do a random chit chat type post today and just throw in a hodgepodge of pictures to go along with it.

It’s been a bit of an odd week where there were a few days where I wasn’t even sure what day it actually was. J didn’t have classes on Tuesday so I think that’s what threw me off a bit.  And I’ve never managed to get it right. Just realized today that this is not the last week of October. Geez. Do you ever get the days and weeks mixed up? Please tell me I’m not alone in doing this.

I’ll also blame the stores. Had some errands to run and felt like Rip Van Winkle. Wondering if I slept through Halloween and Thanksgiving because it’s Christmas!

MONDAY and TUESDAY

Monday, I ended up not working. A bit of a communication mix up. While I didn’t mind not working, the lack of communication frustrated me a bit. Tuesday was walking day (I shared photos from my walk here) We did not have enough players for our Bunco night so four of us went out for dinner instead.

It was okay, the company was nice but the food was just average. And with the price of dining out/food lately, that was a bit disappointing. I did get a complimentary drink with my dinner since they were out of my first choice of an adult “beverage.” So not all bad.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY

Wednesday, I didn’t do much of anything. Posted here, watched the season finale of Daryl Dixon. Have you been watching it? I’m not sure what to make of the episode…The last episodes of Fear the Walking Dead start on Sunday so I’ll be watching that now. Don’t even ask me to explain how I can’t do scary but love the zombie shows.  Oh, I forgot I did make this apple cake minus the custard sauce (too many egg yolks for me, melted ice cream works fine) though it turned out a bit dry. My husband and the boys weren’t big fans. It’s not super sweet so I’ve just ate it for breakfast the past two days.

Thursday, I went on another walk in the morning. Worked in the afternoon. And in the evening a friend and I went to see the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie. Really enjoyed it. Not a big Swiftie but she is super talented and I’d go to that movie again. Wow, I imagine it was a spectacular live show.  My friend and I did wonder if at the live show the time between sets might have been a bit longer. After the movie, we stood in the parking lot visiting for a bit. Then, at home, J wanted to talk. Not about anything serious. However, I feel like if your older kid wants to share things with you, you listen even if the pillow is begging for your attention as well.

FRIDAY (TODAY)

I’m calling it Frittata Friday instead of red Friday because somehow all my Chiefs gear is in the wash. SIGH. At least I’ll have a shirt ready for Sunday. Actually, I was proud of the frittata as we used the last of a bag of mini peppers which means I managed to not let it go bad. We had a pepper popper pizza (recipe off the bag) for lunch one day, pepper steak for dinner another night, and then the frittata for lunch. Oh, I should probably share that I use this recipe for my frittata base. We don’t care for potatoes in our frittatas so leave them out.

And after running to the store earlier, it seems like prices went up again? And how about a sale on Halloween candy?  I had to run to the store because I’m making ranch chicken enchiladas using the slow cooker for dinner tonight and had somehow picked up a Hidden Valley Ranch “Dill” dip mix instead of the original stuff. Thought that probably wouldn’t work so went and picked up the right mix plus some yellow rice (forgot it on Monday), chips, and salsa to round out our meal. Curious to see how it turns out.

WEEKEND PLANS

Tonight after J and I return from his class (he goes to class, I sit in a sunny/shady spot in the car and read), I’ll probably not do much. TV viewing I imagine, the new episode of Loki is out so I’ll watch that and maybe a not too scary Halloween movie.

Now that I know it’s not the last week of the month, our weekend is open as our friends won’t be hosting a bonfire until next weekend. Tomorrow morning I’ll visit the local farmer’s markets in search of some good bread, maybe do some more yard work and work on getting more plants ready to transition inside.

Sunday’s the Chiefs game in the afternoon and then, depending on whether J wants to drive himself to band practice or not, a Target trip in the evening.

A pretty low-key weekend on our horizon and I’m okay with that. Do you have exciting weekend plans?

Nashville Trip, Getting There

Just thought I’d share a little about our trip to Nashville the next few days. Seems like a good way to procrastinate cleaning the house get back into a routine of blogging.

We left early Thursday morning, too early for me and not early enough for my husband. Have you seen that meme floating around (can’t find it) that says there are two types of people, the ones who pack the night before and the ones who try to sneak in another load of laundry the morning of the trip? And that they marry each other. Very relatable. For the record, I’m the “another load of laundry” person. Nashville is about a solid 8 hour drive from here.

We left about 8 a.m. and made good time. Stopped at The Sweet Spot in St. Louis so my husband could get some fried croissants and I could get a couple cannoli. We enjoyed our treats for the next couple of days as well. It threw us off our planned route but was well worth it.

We then, stopped for lunch at a Dairy Queen somewhere east of St. Louis in Illinois though I think we’d passed by east St. Louis by then. It wasn’t a very scenic drive through that area of Illinois. A random bathroom break brought us to our fun stop in Metropolis, IL. Shared a few pictures last Monday so maybe just one today.

Last Stop Before Our Destination

We actually spent a bit more time there than intended. Mostly because I was wearing a Chiefs shirt and you know, KC fans are everywhere. We ran into a woman (not literally) who used to live in the KC area and she was a talker though her stories were quite interesting. She told us how her supervisor had run her over (he was drunk) causing back injuries when she was doing road work on a local state highway back in the early 90’s. And that she’d helped in getting the law about the fines for hitting construction workers made. She was there when former President Clinton signed it into law.

I wish I’d have thought to ask her for her name. I could find nothing regarding what she said during a few google searches on the way home but I don’t disbelieve her stories either.

Nashville Arrival

I wish I could tell you we hit the ground running and did lots of fun exciting things when we arrived. We did not. Even the photo above is from the following day. We checked into our hotel which was a nice Marriott in a business district–we’re not hip downtown staying kind of people. Plus, honestly, we were too cheap to pay the downtown hotel parking rates. We checked into our hotel later in the afternoon and then, went to eat at…wait for it…Arby’s. Yes, that’s how exciting we are over here.

For the record, I don’t like Arby’s and it apparently doesn’t matter if it’s in a different state. Still don’t like it. Of course, I should have got the chicken but tried roast beef as I knew we’d likely be having hot chicken in Nashville and didn’t want to ruin my appetite for it.

Don’t worry, we did do more exciting things than go to Arby’s on our trip. I’ll share about our first full day in my next post.

Day 4 Report: The Last Day Of Our 5 Day Vacation

Remember, we cut our vacation a bit short. So here’s my final report on family vacation to the Table Rock lake area.

First, I was treated to one last beautiful sunrise over the lake:

Our Lodging: Why We Cut Our Vacation A Bit Short

I can usually do a pretty good job of adapting to less than ideal conditions but this lodging was simply 2 small for the 4 of us. Three of whom are quite introverted. Thus, I spent so much time on the screened porch trying to give everyone their space. Not that I didn’t enjoy sitting out there reading but at the same time, it was kinda hot outside, reading by a pool/beside the lake would’ve been more my speed.

So basically, the boys twin beds/bedroom was in the living room. Probably just about 3 feet from the kitchen table pictured up there (I’d say excuse the mess but we were on vacation and I took these photos on a whim to share with my girlfriends via text). As you can see, we had our own bedroom with room for pretty much a bed and unpictured, a tall dresser where thankfully, we could put a fan or it would’ve been so hot in there!

Guess one thing we did learn: Tiny house living is not for us! Ha. And I’m never giving the ok on a resort/hotel without a pool ever again.

On The Way Home

We didn’t decide until Friday morning to just pack it in and go home. There might’ve been a few tears (probably happiness from the kids except they weren’t crying). I explained a few times that I wasn’t mad but simply disappointed. The trip did get better once we packed all our belongings up and started on the road home.

First, we ate lunch at a Godfather’s Pizza buffet. So I was happy about that. After lunch, we went to the The World’s Largest Toy Museum-Branson. Is it truly the largest in the world? I have no idea but they had lots of toys. It was somewhere G had mentioned sounded interesting so we wanted to go somewhere he wanted to go after he endured Silver Dollar City.

We had a good time. Lots of nostalgia. Note: I would not in a million years attempt this museum with anyone under age 10-11. They’d be bored I think. Lots of looking at things behind glass with a few interactive things here and there but not enough for young children.

One of my favorite childhood Christmas memories on display:

I had that stage set and those dolls!

Does anyone else remember playing this game? Good times, ha!

Or watching Mork from Ork on tv?

G liked the Spiderman exhibit, my husband enjoyed the fishing exhibit, and J enjoyed it all though I’m not sure he had a big favorite…maybe the Hot Wheels though I didn’t get a photo of those (the Hot Wheels were all for sale!):

On the outside of the building:

Lots of different movie posters. And yes, they had a huge Star Wars section inside as well. My sweet G took some pictures to send his cousin as it made us both think of his late uncle who’d been a huge Star Wars fanatic.

Then, it was goodbye to the toy museum and Branson.

Thoughts and Conversations Along The Way Home

We decided our house would feel like a mansion upon arrival home. It did. No place like home is quite true.

We also ranked our vacations. When G said it was in the bottom 3 of our family vacations, I thought to ask all of them what their favorite vacations were:

G: Minnesota the first time we went there. Funny since that trip to Minneapolis and Nickelodeon Universe is where we discovered he suffered from motion sickness. It was a fun time though.

At the Minnesota Zoo

My husband: South Dakota

Needles highway on the way into Custer State Park

J and I had the same answer: We both fell in love with Duluth, Minnesota located along the shores of Lake Superior

We all also enjoyed our Colorado vacation. So to end this post of a not so great vacation on a positive note, my top 3 family vacations were: Colorado Springs, Colorado, South Dakota (We stayed in Custer and drove into Rapid City), and Duluth, Minnesota. I’d have voted for Washington D.C. had it not been us tagging along on G’s band trip so we weren’t together that much as a family.

Do you have a favorite family vacation?

Vacation Day 3: A Pretty Good Day

This was actually exactly a week ago today. Wow, seems so much longer than that.

Silver Dollar City mostly saved our vacation from not being the bottom of the 3 worst vacations we’ve ever taken.

Note: There won’t be a lot of pictures with this post as I didn’t get my phone out very much.

Have I ever mentioned that poor G gets motion sickness? So amusement parks aren’t a lot of fun for him. However, he enjoyed the food and did ride a couple things with us.

The First Rides

First up, we each took turns riding a roller coaster with J called Wildfire. Always that slight fear as you get older that things might be different or is that just me? I can still ride!

Then, we were off to relive my childhood a bit and ride the Fire in the Hole. It was one of their first roller coasters and this is the last year for it so I was happy for that experience. We also enjoyed talking with a gentleman from Oklahoma while waiting to ride.

Park Food

When J and I returned from the ride, G and my husband were eating some homemade kettle chips that were very good.

At lunch, we had pretty standard amusement park food although I did feel like we got good portions for the price. The boys and I had chicken strips/tater tots and my husband had some kind of pulled pork.

Best thing, outside the saltwater taffy–brought way too much of that home, was the icee station. So the boys and I were able to each get a mix and match flavors icee. I had watermelon, blue raspberry, and drop of cherry limeade for mine.

Rides We Rode Together

As I mentioned, G gets pretty bad motion sickness but thought he could handle one of the water rides. It was called Mystic River Falls and lots of fun. Did we get wet? Oh my, yes!  Big wave right down my back. Thankfully, we’d put all our things in a locker prior to going on the ride. Our shoes were squishy the rest of the day/evening.

Fun thing I’d never seen before, for a price, they had these huge drying chambers you could go in after the ride next to the lockers. We didn’t pay the (crazy high) price but someone had left one running so we did stand in it for a bit. Hot on a hot day though.

We were going to ride the train but that turned into a bit of a fiasco which I did share in my guest survey via email a few days ago. Basically, they crammed us into the station but then, not everyone in the station was able to board and the next train was not due round for another 30 minutes! So sadly, we missed out on that. I was a bit disappointed as it was another fond childhood memory for me.

So instead, though by this point most of them–read G and my husband–were tired and cranky, we rode one called the Flooded Mine. Basically a very slow boat ride where you get these little attached guns to shoot the targets that make things happen (think piano plays, bell rings, etc).

Scary and Fun Rides

The main two rides J wanted to try were the new wooden roller coaster called Outlaw Run and one that spins around called The Time Traveler.

We’d already decided I’d do the Time Traveler with him as the spinning did not appeal to my husband. I was a bit nervous as well but you know, the things we do for our kids and all that.

My husband and J rode the Outlaw Run first. I’d planned to take a turn as well. However, J’s first words after they came out of the ride were: Mom, I don’t think you should do that one.

My husband said: I’ve never been so scared on a roller coaster in my life!

J didn’t even want to ride it a second time.

I was nervous about riding the Time Traveler but we got in line. And it was a bit scary as the que is up several flights of steps which meant….I was not ready for it….you get in and then, go DOWN….FAST! No hill climb to prepare for the fast hill. A bit scary but it was really fun. I’d have gone again had everyone not been a bit wiped out and ready to go home by that point.

The End of Our Day

My husband and I rode the tram back to the parking lot while the boys opted to walk. They won. Thankfully, they had the keys so could get in the truck and cool off a bit. Back at our “resort” my husband grilled hot dogs and hamburgers though none of use were super hungry. And poor J had a really bad headache so took some Ibuprofen and called it a night.

Then, we briefly talked about what to do the next day including floating by the idea of just heading home early.

Vacation Report, Days 1 and 2

A week ago today, we were on our way to the Table Rock lake area near Branson, Missouri.

Branson, Missouri while a super popular vacation destination is not my favorite place to go. At all.

Every year when I was a young child into my teen years, our family vacation was a resort on Table Rock lake. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, I swore we would go DIFFERENT places when I had kids so we have done that. This was only our 2nd, maybe 3rd family vacation to the area.

So if you don’t like it why’d you go there? We went because J wanted to go ride the roller coasters at Silver Dollar City. Actually, he was looking at the roller coasters in Ohio, I forget what city…where a big amusement park is located? However, time restraints made us reel in our plans to what was nearby.

A well-kept secret: Branson is not a budget friendly vacation! Maybe if you go and stay at a resort on the lake and do nothing else but even then, some of those resorts can get pricey. Ours was not. And ahem, you get what you pay for…

Tuesday:

Our trip down there was fine. It’s only about a 3 1/2 hour drive from KC. This is nice especially with older kids/teenagers/young adults who aren’t excited about leaving the house at 7 in the morning. We didn’t leave the house until probably 10 or 10:30.

I laughed a bit as when I went on my girlfriends weekend we stopped at a nice restaurant and then, toured Truman’s birthplace. When we went as a family, we ate at Wendy’s and then, browsed a shoe store (I’d forgotten my water shoes so there was a purpose).

We arrived at our destination around 3:30. In some ways it was exactly what I expected. In others, it was not.

The screened porch was nice and I spent most my time there reading my books. I didn’t end up needing the forgotten water shoes because the resort had no shore line! And it was such a steep walk down to the dock that none of us braved it in anything less than our tennis shoes. We did spend a bit of time fishing on Tuesday night though we caught nothing but a few very small perch.

We looked into renting a boat for one of the days but ultimately decided against it. My husband said he could borrow his brother’s boat and take the kids fishing around here for free. (Boat rentals in this area were crazy high! Usually resorts have boats for rent but the one boat we saw at the resort wouldn’t have safely held 4 people.)

Wednesday

We ventured into Branson on Wednesday. Since I was a little upset and disappointed over a few things, my husband surprised me with a trip to:

The Butterfly Palace

I do love butterflies and we all enjoyed this. Can’t remember the name of the butterfly pictured here:

I have a video of the butterfly below in flight but no idea how to get it on here but you can click on this link to see what the wings look like spread out:  blue morpho:

For Daniela from Danahandmade:

Can’t remember exactly what it was called, some sort of geode.

After the Butterfly Palace, G was especially happy as we stumbled across a Steak and Shake so ate lunch there. We used to have one near us but it closed down and now the closest one is about a 40 minute drive.

Then, it was on to:

Branson Landing

This is essentially a huge shopping area along Lake Taneycomo. None of it existed when we used to go to Branson when I was a kid. It’s so built up now. However, I still think Lake Taneycomo is beautiful! And honestly, kind of prefer it to Table Rock Lake. It’s a cold water lake where the main fishing is for trout.

There’s a walkway where you can walk along the lake. And they have fountains that put on a little show every hour starting at noon. Again, I have a video but no idea how to get it from the phone to here. Maybe I’ll mess with trying to figure it out later.

Otherwise, it’s basically like any other overpriced outdoor shopping place you’ve been with the brick sidewalks and expensive restaurants. We were trying to go the Dicks 5 & 10 which is an iconic downtown Branson store but my husband got mixed up and we went to the “dime” store in the landing instead. They are not the same!

After those two adventures, we returned to our cabin and had some down time before a less than successful dinner I cooked there. Then, we retreated to our various spaces, mine being the screened porch where I read until dark.

Back From Vacation

We’ve been on vacation if you were wondering. Tuesday through Saturday at Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. Except we came home on Friday instead.

It was a trip to celebrate J’s graduation. Most of it was fine, our lodging was just very cramped and we were all ready to be at home in our own house and our own rooms and sleep in our own beds. The little gray cat was certainly not disappointed to see us a day early.

Of course, I have more photos and I’ll do a proper vacation briefing type post soon. Just thought I’d pop this little note here for now and go catch up with a few blogs while tackling that mountain of vacation laundry!

Have you ever cut an out of town vacation short?

Catching Up A Bit

It’s been a lazy, rainy (hooray) Saturday around here. One of those kinds that not much of anything gets accomplished. I do have some laundry going in the washer. And we ran to Sam’s Club this morning where I picked up a few summer tops. Time to have some tee-shirts that aren’t advertising a school event.

On and off, I’ve tried to catch up on some blogs, looked at my emails (so many), and debated my Old Navy shopping cart. Downloaded a silly fashion battle game on my phone, then uninstalled it as I realized how much of a time suck it could be. Plus, so many ads!

Randomness From This Past Week

    • Yesterday, a kid told me he needed a pink cupcake. Um, me, too. Poor guy was having a hard time adjusting (possibly some underlying issues) and won’t be back. Kind of sad but it does happen sometimes. He’s got great potential for somewhere that can give him the one on one attention he needs.
    • On Thursday, I went for a very overdue eye-appointment (I was overdue before the pandemic so…) and was happy to find out my eyes are still in decent shape, my Rx changed very little. I think my job saved me there, no looking at a computer screen all the time. And I went ahead and splurged on a pair of prescription sunglasses as well. Oh, and technology can be amazing. No puffs of air, no need for getting my eyes dilated (cool photos of eye-balls to see even).
    • My schedule changed and I don’t have to work in the kitchen next week. Woohoo! Happy about that one.
    • My poor garden and flowers are not as pretty as they should be. My butterfly garden is a mess but the lavender is blooming. And we are so behind on planting things (okra) this year. However, we’ve had longer days of summer reaching into fall the past few years so that may save us.
    • Last night, I watched We’re The Millers on Netflix. How had I never seen that one? So funny! Definitely not one for young kiddos though! And now I have Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls song stuck in my head.

(P.S. Since Jason Sudeikis was the lead in the movie, I should mention I read where they might be making a Ted Lasso spinoff!!)
