Fighting the January Blahs

The January blahs or blues or whatever you want to call them hit hard today. We’re on day too many of not seeing the sun. It’s foggy, damp, and depressing outside. The snow is in the stage of no longer pretty and half-ice mounds and half-muddy mess. A few snowmen (not ours) are hanging on around town at least.

For my attempt at winter appreciation today: Earl gray tea and a slice of cinnamon bread for an afternoon snack. Maybe I’ll see if I can sneak in the latest Percy Jackson episode before we leave for J’s class.

Oh and in a that’s just the way the day is going: While I was in the library, someone crashed into the transformer (they were okay) outside cutting off power for a lot of that block. SIGH. So much for escaping the blahs that way.

How do you cope with the winter blues when it means being stuck inside?

(If you are wondering why I didn’t go for a walk, it’s because I’m thinking based on my last walk, it’s most likely an icy mess right now)

  1. Hello! I have missed visiting with you here, my friend. Well, I think your tea and delicious-looking bread is a great start! It is gloomy and yucky snowy here, too. Snow is so pretty coming down, but after a few days, ugh! Flynn and I are snuggling on the couch, nursing our colds. I guess that is what we get for traveling in January! Have a cozy evening.

    1. Welcome home! Sorry to hear you brought home an extra unwanted travel souvenir. Hope you are feeling much better tonight.

  2. Oh, not nice, the January blues. I sometimes struggle hard to replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Like, it’s okay, you can feel this, but still, do something about it. So today, I cleaned out the closet and really tried out a few tips… How to throw away things without too much hesitation. Also…I find that I feel better when doing diamond painting and I have an Instagram account dedicated to it, which helps me actually engage in the activity. So that’s a tip. Hobbies can do you good.

Today, I read someone’s blog, and she mentioned that she takes a photo of her coffee cup in a fun way every day. And she shares it somewhere (the photo). That helps her get through it. I found it so cute, too bad she’s already doing it. Haha…

I’m sending you a big hug, can you feel it?”

    1. Thank you, yes, I feel better so the hug really helped a lot! I should search out an in the house hobby for days/weeks where getting outside just isn’t possible. Maybe I’ll visit one of the craft type stores tomorrow. I’ve been doing a bit of cleaning over here, the medicine cabinet one day, our bathroom the next, and that does help a bit. What a fun idea with the coffee cup. Getting out tonight with friends so I know that will help a lot. Hope you are getting ready for a wonderful weekend!
