Winter’s Winding Down

This is the second to last Wednesday in winter and so my second to last post for the season. It’s definitely an indoor kind of late winter day. I’m cooked a roast in the crock pot and spent some time wrapped in my snuggly blanket watching television.

The Weather

It’s a pretty chilly day. Cloudy, rained on and off all day. Haven’t see the sun. Currently 43 degrees out there with a feels like of 36. Funny how that feels cold to me today but if we’d had a day like this in January, it would’ve just about qualified as no coat weather. (For the record, we had several light jacket only days in January this year)

Thoughts As This Winter Winds Down

Even though our weather’s been mild, I do still feel as though I’m coming out of a hibernation a bit. And I’m still angry that I’m not yet “shedding” my winter coat of fat. Ha. Probably work better if I stopped making strawberry pies and such.

I do wonder if the milder weather was a factor in fewer days of feeling depressed over here. Maybe I should have tracked if we had more days of sun than usual. I tend to get down a bit in the winter months and really, didn’t feel it as much. (I’ll have to ask my husband if he noticed, he might have a different opinion about it)

Seems that my allergy/sore throat stuff morphed into a touch of bronchitis/pneumonia. Been a while but I recognize it. Had a good run. All the dust from mowing up the dead leaves over the weekend didn’t help things. It’s not awful, just annoying. Need to make friends with my black elderberry syrup again.

Also, I wonder if they realize with the upcoming time change around here, they’re springing us forward while it’s still technically winter?

Finally, like the little spring plants pushing up from the ground, I’m starting to feel a bit hopeful for the future. If you’ve followed for a while, you know the past few years have been tough at times with my youngest. (Every time I mention it, I want to add what pops into my head: stupid Covid!) However, I’m starting to think spring and summer just might bring good things for all of us.

  1. Yes, it’s been cloudy and kind of misty here all day and now it’s getting really foggy.

Your wondering about more sunny days than usual or not reminds me of when I was homeschooling my children. One September we wanted to track the weather (sunny, cloudy, or rainy, daily high and low temps), so we took a big sheet of poster board and mapped out the calendar for September. Then, we cut out red, yellow, and green apples out of construction paper. Each day we would place an apple on the correct date…red if it was sunny, yellow if it was cloudy, and green if it was rainy. On each of the apples we recorded the day’s high and low temperature. It was a fun project for the kids. You wouldn’t want to get that complicated, of course, but, maybe next winter (or all year long, if you’d prefer) you could select a certain calendar and each day just draw a little circle to represent the sun, a cloud to represent cloud days, or a rain drop for rainy days and kind of track it like that so you can go back and see. Anyway, it’s just an idea.

I’m sorry that you’re down with this crud, too. I feel so much better, but am still battling it a bit. Seems that I do much better when it’s sunny and a bit warmer. This damp weather has me chilled again. Am definitely praying over you and your family.

As for the time change…I wish they’d pick one way or another and just leave it there!!! I see absolutely no purpose for it whatsoever at this point. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so.

Anyway…have a good evening and I hope you feel much better soon! Blessings, my friend! <3

    1. That’s a fun idea, sometimes the teachers do a weather unit with the kids and track it. Might be fun to do just for myself though. I don’t really feel bad so much as I have the back of throat tickle nonstop, might be allergies but it feels like a bit more. I was doing pretty good until I mowed the lawn on Sunday and all that dust, ugh. Glad you are feeling better, hope you continue to feel better until you’re back at 100%. No purpose for the time change any more, there was a really interesting history of it on the Farmer’s Almanac site, it was started during WWI as an energy saving thing according to them. Anyway, it’s almost the weekend, hope you have a wonderful one!
